<strong><span class="subhead">KANSAS CITY | Argument ends in fatal shooting</span></strong> A young man died Sunday night after he was shot while arguing with two men at Cherry Street and Armour Boulevard.
SALINA, Kan. | Animal-control officers knew the dog they saw looked like a pit bull. It didn&rsquo;t matter that the dog in question, Angie Cartwright&rsquo;s family pet Lucey, had never bitten anyone. Nor had she ever acted aggressively.
A recent count of the endangered black-footed ferret found 26 of them at two reintroduction sites in west-central Kansas. A U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist said only seven ferrets were live-trapped, but two dozen volunteers who spent a week in the pastures counted the others.
None of the customers laughing through brunch at The Phoenix Jazz Club on Sunday looked familiar to the staff from the Newhouse domestic violence shelter taking tickets at the door. But then, said Susan Whitmore, vice president of development from the shelter, &ldquo;When we see them, women are usually at their worst. The women who have come back to visit after they&rsquo;ve gotten their lives together look night-and-day different from when they stayed with us.&rdquo;
So was anyone else startled by the new rules for the city&rsquo;s community centers? No? The recent news should have caused a head snap.
